If you are reading this blog post, congratulations! You have just enrolled in the first online school. An institution of higher learning for those who are too lazy to go out into the world and learn things themselves. A gigantic library on the internet, full of all the information that you could ever need to know without any pesky people around to talk to. Not convinced? Then you are probably not the kind of person who will succeed in life. Just kidding! There are other, better schools out there for you. But if you are still reading, then I must congratulate you on your perseverance. Lets take a journey through the highs and lows of my first day at school, shall we? It is fun to go back to the past every once in a while, especially if it involves watching videos that will make you feel better about yourself today.The first thing I did upon enrollment was watch the orientation videos left by my predecessors. They were very good at film-making. It was almost like watching a movie. I will share it with you in a while. Then I read the instructions to find out what was going to be expected of me in the days to come. It looked easy enough, so I set out to watch a few lectures and maybe have a fancy lunch at the student cafeteria.First, I watched a video from my friend's favorite teacher, Bill Nye the Science Guy. He is one of those personalities who can easily put his audience at ease with his kind and humorous demeanor. He takes every opportunity to remind us where we came from and how we have always been interacting with science around us in our everyday lives. I enjoyed the video. That was one box ticked.Next, I watched a video from my friend Mick O'Regan who presents The Human Animal. This guy is always ready to take the stage and make an awkward situation seem funny with his sense of humor. He can even make you think you are not embarrassed at all by what has happened, even if there is a part of you which feels very ashamed about it. I even sent him a message as soon as I watched the first video as a way of support and encouragement for him on this endeavor of his. All he can do now is learn how to live up to this level of performance every time he comes out with something new. After a short while I decided to take a walk around the campus to get a feel for the place. It is a huge complex, with plenty to see in every direction you look. There is a library, computer labs, residential rooms and laboratories for all kinds of experiments. And it goes on and on in every direction. Many students are out strolling around at this time of the day because it is only noon, but I'm sure that they will all come to life in an hour or two when there is plenty of natural light from the setting sun.
